Land Rover has recalled Range Rover and Range Rover Sports models released between 2013 to now in the US due to vehicle doors unlocking and occasionally unlatching themselves caused by a software glitch. This recall has added to the headaches that Jaguar Land Rover was having over the last year. Its keyless ignition feature proved vulnerable to reprogramming by thieves using inexpensive hardware.
A software glitch has resulted in the BC Lottery Corporation awarding nine gamblers more than one million dollars. The problem occurred in the Wizard of Odds slot machine game and caused an error message to be displayed, rather than players being notified when they had won the progressive jackpot. The glitch also appears to be localized and restricted only to PlayNow.com.
The reality is all software has defects, either; “known defects” or “yet to be discovered defects.” With that said, defects do slip into the production for various reasons and quite often the quality of the release depends on skill levels of the team, tight timelines, and ever changing stories or requirements. The fact remains that defects found in production cause substantially more damage to the bottom line and business reputation.
